Meet The Shapers - Rusty

Rusty Preisendorfer has been one of the most high profile and influential surfboard shapers around the world for the past 2 decades.

Rusty Preisendorfer

Rusty established his reputation in the 80's as one of the most high profile and influential shapers in the world, and in turn has provided the winning craft for many of the world's Top 44 during the last two decades, including Mark Occhilupo, the Hobgoods, and more recently free surfing freaks Jamie O'Brien, Josh Kerr and Jay Davies.

As a shaper, Preisendorfer deserves credit for perfecting the modern thruster as we know it.  Subtle variations are all that separate the current standard from his early 80's models.  The boxy rails that are so commonplace today were the benchmark of Occy's boards during his phenomenal run as a teenager.  Despite Preisendorfer's status as a premier shortboard shaper, he feels his biggest contribution has been his dedication to the average surfer.

Sitting comfortably amongst the 'best in the business', including fellow shaping pioneers Simon Anderson, Al Merrick, and Eric Arakawa, Rusty continues to work closely with Aido in developing the Rusty Surfboards Global Program, and in pushing the envelope in both design innovation and manufacturing processes.

Meet The Shapers - Aido

Based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Aido has been shaping for Rusty for nearly 10 years and has come to know the high quality in shape/design and construction accustomed with the heritage of the brand.

Aido

Aido has been fine-tuning craft for the elite athletes on the global Rusty team such as Josh Kerr, Jay Davies, Jayke Sharp and Marlon Gerber since beginning and has had major success with these riders.

For this he was placed in the top 10 (3rd) shapers (worldwide) under 35 years old in Waves 2009.

He catches up with Rusty every year in the US and Hawaii to create the top end surfboards, not only for team riders but for the everyday punters.  He continues to strive for perfect boards in all types of conditions!

Rusty Is Surfing

Here’s our company line. Rusty is surfing.

Born in a shaping bay amid a cloud of fibreglass and foam and resin, its heritage is unique and unparalleled. Rusty’s approach to surf is lived through each team rider and each piece of clothing. Oowee! Yeah! We may’ve been born in the shaping bay, but don’t think we’re enslaved to tradition! In our boards, in our clothes and in our team riders, there ain’t reverse, or a rear-view mirror, on the progressive Rusty ship.
