I would only have this test done if I had the suspicion of a dsiaese, not blindly in a fishing expedition. The husband of a close friend of mine got tested for the Huntington's gene after watching his mother decline and die from it. Both he and his sister tested positive. Around the time he was diagnosed, my friend found out she was pregnant after years of trying to conceive. Her husband was elated. She was conflicted and didn't tell her family for months, fearing retribution that she was careless in bringing a life into the world that might be marked from the start.Eventually joy overtook her though, and her daughter, now 11, has never been tested. I agree with this. Who knows what medical advances will occur in the next 30-40 years? Why live under a cloud unnecessarily.Tragically, my friend was spared caring for her husband during a long demise with Huntington's. He died at the age of 45 from congestive heart failure. What do I take from all of this? Live in the moment, and live fully. Life is inherently risky, whether we know of diminished odds or not.Hope you are well, Jean. Glad to see you back blogging.
