Russell has been a passionate surfer for over 40 years. From a young age he drew surf images in sketchbooks and on his schoolwork, dreaming of the next wave.
In the 80's he started his ongoing sketchbook series "California Homegrounds" which is full of stories with real and imagined surf spots and characters.
